Hamster Cage Review

Today’s video is following up from my previous video. I want to share with you some alternatives to the typical pet shop cages, and show you that there are some great hamster cages online (if you search around a bit). For this video, I reviewed the Alexander cage from ZooPlus.

Currently on ZooPlus the cage costs £99.99, though I bought the cage for about £69.99 because they regularly have deals on their cages. You can get the cage cheaper from this website:

I have had this cage in my attic for a few years (as I used it for a previous hamster) so I thought I would film a review of the cage. This cage is definitely approved by Pingu! As soon as I put him in here to demonstrate, he was having a great time exploring, and even built a nest! Overall I think it is a great accommodation, and ticks all the boxes!

Pingu doesn’t really use all the space in the detolf, as when he is awake, he spends almost all his time running on his wheel. I am considering keeping him here; it suits his needs really well and I think he much prefers it. The ventilation is so much better - I was never able to create a well ventilated lid for the detolf because we have a cat who always sits on top of the lid, and could easily break through the mesh. It is also really good for interacting with your hamster - the two doors at the side are great for taming as approaching from from lower down makes them feel much more comfortable (whereas accessing from above can mimic a predator). Please don’t get me wrong, the detolf is a really great hamster home, and I will definitely still recommend it to hamster owners, especially for those hamsters who are very active and require more space.
